WARRANTY
--------
RIPit-UP is distributed without warranty. In no event will Bud
Younke or Brian Younke be liable to you for damages, including any
loss of profits, lost savings, or other incidental or consequential
damages arising out of your use of or inability to use the program,
even if Bud Younke, Brian Younke, or an authorized representative
has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Bud Younke and
Brian Younke will not be liable for any such claim by any other party.
The only guarantee is that this program will take up drive space, and it
should be less than your BBS software!!
*****IMPORTANT*****IMPORTANT*****IMPORTANT*****IMPORTANT*****
The displays for the ansi users will NOT display normally on the
local screen. The sysop name, bbs name and the prompts(==>) will
appear to be on the wrong lines, and the top lines of the display
will be missing. This is caused by scrolling from the user status
bar. The remote image is alligned correctly. After all it's more
important it makes sense to them than to you anyhow.<G>
RUNNING RIPit-UP
-------------
RIPit-UP is run as any of our other doors from a batch file which
includes the line:
RIPit-UP door.cfg
(door) (config)
In the above command line, "door" is the name of your door's EXE file
and the "config" parameter is the name of the door's configuration
file(DOOR.CFG). The configuration file must reside in the same
directory as RIPit-UP. The configuration file is an ASCII text file
with the following format:
Line 1: Door data file type.
Line 2: Path to the door data file(s).
Line 3: BBS name.
Line 4: Sysop's name.
Line 5: Locked baud rate.
As illustrated above, the door's data file type is specified in line 1
and can be PCB for PCBoard, GAP for GAP and WILDCAT! 3.xx (DOOR.SYS,), SF
for Spitfire, RBBS for RBBS, WC for WildCat!(Callinfo.bbs), TRIBBS for
TriBBS, or WWIV for WWIV. The locked baud rate is specified in line 5. If
the sysop doesn't lock his serial port, he must specify 0 for the locked
baud rate. NOTE: Although many door formats do pass the locked baud rate
in the door data files, some older formats such as RBBS do not. For
conformity, RIPit-UP requires that you specify the locked baud rate in
line 5 and ignores any value passed in the door data files.
The following is a sample door configuration file:
RBBS
C:\VBBS\
The Eagle's Lair
Bud & Brian Younke
38400
Nonstandard IRQs can be used with RIPit-UP by specifying the IRQ number
after the "config" parameter in the command line used to run the door
as follows:
door config irq
INSTALLING THE FILES
--------------------
All files RIPit-UP.EXE
DOOR.CFG
PROTOCOL.DAT
must all be located in the same directory. Do not rename any of the
files. Edit PROTOCOL.DAT and as needed for your system configuration.
A subdirectory must be created one level below your Main RIPit-UP dir. and
MUST be named "RIPFILES". This is used to store unarchived copies of
your .RIP and .ICN files as well as the temporary filelist for
transfers. You must have a copy of Omen Technologies GSZ or DSZ protocol
in a directory in your DOS path.
PROTOCOL.DAT
------------
A sample PROTOCOL.DAT file is included. It is a simple ASCII text file
which includes the following information:
Line 1: The name of the protocol you will use (GSZ or DSZ)
Line 2: The Drive letter for the drive holding the RIPFILES DIR (C D
No ":" after drive letter
Line 3: This line determines if you will give the user the option to
download RIPterm or any other RIP compatible terminal. Enter a
capital 'Y' if you want them to have this option or a capital
'N' to disable this option.
Line 4: This is the complete path and filename to the RIP compatible
terminal for the user to download. ***IMPORTANT*** EVEN IF
LINE 3 IS SET TO 'N' THIS LINE MUST CONTAIN SOME FORM OF ENTRY
EVEN IF IT IS ONLY ONE LETTER. IF LINE 3 IS SET TO 'N' THIS
INFORMATION WILL BE IGNORED AT RUNTIME.
RIP_USER.DAT
------------
RIP_USER.DAT is the database file where the username and last date
of file update is stored. RIPit-UP will create this file on startup if
it is not found. If a user is not listed in the database RIPit-UP will
assume they have NONE of your screens and will download all files to
the user, and then append their record to the end of RIP_USER.DAT. DO
NOT ATTEMPT TO MANUALLY EDIT THE RIP_USER.DAT FILE!
SPECIAL KEYS
------------
While RIPit-UP is running, the sysop can press certain special keys to
perform a variety of functions. The following is a list of the
functions that the RIPit-UP special keys perform:
Key(s) Function
HOME Toggles between the user status window and a help
display that lists the RIPit-UP special keys.
F6 Takes 5 minutes away from the caller.
NOTE: This will NOT be returned to BBS.
F7 Gives 5 minutes to the caller.
NOTE: This will NOT be returned to the BBS.
F9 Quit the door and return the caller to the BBS.
F10 Enter chat mode. Pressing the ESC key exits the
chat mode.
Alt+D Drop to DOS.
REGISTRATION
------------
RIPit-UP is distriuted as a fully functional program. All RIP
screens are hard coded into the EXE file and are not user
editable. Registration will allow the SysOp to install a closing
RIP screen of his choice as a standard .RIP file and will
eliminate the 30 second registration nag. We spent some time
considering a cripple version of RIPit_UP and decided against
releasing this program as crippled. Considerations were not
enabling mouse support, limiting the number of users in the
database or the number of files that could be transferred. We
decided to count on YOUR honesty to abide by the license
agreement below if you feel that RIPit-UP is worthwhile.
Registrations will encourage further development of RIPit-UP.
RIPit-UP is distributed as shareware. You are granted a liscense to
use RIPit-UP for evaluation purposes only for a period of up to 30
days. After 30 days you must either register RIPit-UP or
discontinue use of the program. You are permitted to copy and
distribute copies of RIPit-UP provided only the original unmodified
files are distributed.
The archiver used may be changed to any of your choice. You are
not permitted to charge for copies of RIPit-UP other than a disk
copying fee not to exceed $3.00. Access fees for electronic BBS
systems are exempt provided the access fees are for general
access to the entire system and not for specific files.
The registered version of RIPit-UP may not be distributed under ANY
condition.
Registration of RIPit-UP is $12.00 US. This includes the latest
registered copy of RIPit-UP, and a free copy of Lairware's User
Toast door! Please specify 3.5 or 5.25 Disk size. Orders will be
shipped U.S. Mail first class as soon as received.
Money orders only... sorry no personal checks....

OTHER STUFF......
-----------------
Other products mentioned here are copyright or trademarks of
their respective owners. We would like to take this opportunity to
plug VBBS ... Thanks Roland for providing such an
incredibly configurable BBS package.....
RIPit-UP was compied using Borland's Turbo Pascal 6.0 and
RMDoor by Randy Hunt and Mark Goodwin.
FUTURE PLANS
--------------
Additional development of RIPit-UP will depend in a large part on
the response we receive on this BETA release of RIPit-UP. The
only plans written in stone are to produce the release version of
the program with the improvements mentioned above. But just a
couple of possibilities to keep in mind.
<1> RIPit-UP will exit with Dos errorlevels for various failures
throughout the program. These errorlevels are not documented in
the shareware version. If you feel that this would be an
advantage to test in your .BAT files then let us know.
<2> Creating an ASCII log of the RIPit-UP door activity including
errors and successful downloads, including the filenames... date
and time stamped.
<3> And in the further future a routine to allow RIPit-UP to
"auto-register" your new users based on information stored in
RIPTerms text variable internal database. This would require that
your users maintain the necessary information in their database.
Again your input would be greatly appreciated.
With the successful conclusion of the BETA testing phase of
RIPit-UP most of our efforts in new development will be directed
toward "Thunder Valley" a fantasy- trivia- user fight on-line door
game. (Hey what more could you ask for in one door!!) Most of the
project is in the planning stage but we will be looking for Beta
test sites. A file "BETATEST.APP" is included with this release if
you would like to apply as a Beta test site. Criteria for Beta are
(1) Software used.. if you are the only applicant running "Gumby
BBS'" then in all liklihood you will be selected.<G> <2> User
traffic and open hours.. if we have dozens of applicants with the
same software then these criteria will be used to select the Beta
sites for that software. We are also looking for several
Support/Distribution sites. This information is included on the
BETATEST.APP form. You do not need to be a Beta site to join us as
a support board.
WELL OK ONE MORE THING
----------------------
We are always looking for ideas for new and original software
for use by BBS system operators. Feel free to send us any ideas
you may have. From a single sentence to a detailed layout. If we
develop your idea we will give you the credit, and include an
advertisement for your BBS in the program. We'd like to say we
would pay you for the idea, but hey... we're not exactly getting
rich at this. What else we can do is offer you a free registered
copy of one of our game or utility doors!! So get those ideas
flying! In the event of duplicate ideas the first one we receive
based on postmark will be considered to be the winner!
